Although 5 whole years have passed over this renovation ,every moment of it stays in my memory quite vividly as it was a very special Project in many ways.

*****************************************************

First of all, it was a great beginning of a client architect relationship that has come to last till now with a total of 13 projects so far.
Another reason that made this renovation particularly special was the history of the building which dates back to the early 1900s.

With a past of over 100 years, the BRAUNSTEİN apartment had its share of aging. The challange was to design the first office of a very young and famous blogger in such an old space.
------------------------------------------------------
Although the client was the mere reflection of youth and energy, she believed in the aura of the past. That is why, the main idea was to balance the old and new  by mixing significant old structural details with new and easy to use materials. The process began by tearing apart useless layers to bring about the main historic elements.
The cratfsmanship of the brick walls and vaulted ceilings was striking.

The initial
Goal was to design an eye catching entry with a dynamic character.
The colors and materials were selected together with Buse Terim, the blogger herself.
The focus was to have the energy in the center and have everything radiate from it with bits and surprises in small bundles.

Peeling the old floorings which have been layered through the years required a great deal of time and energy.Once this challenge was complete, clear epoxy was hand poured on to the bare concrete floor.

THE PROCESS

All the original doors and windows were kept and restored with minor handling and paint.Only the kitchen door was replaced with a glass door , dressed with custom designed macaroon stickers.

The old hexagon window glass was all broken so we decided to have colorful pieces of glass made by a local glasswork studio specializing in antique pieces.Painting the vaulted ceilings all white after tearing down chips and old paint expressed the charming structure and resulted in a higher feeling space.

---No matter the size, I believe, a renovation job that is true to the characteristic architecture is always intriguing, so it was a job worth all the hard work!!!---

KITCHEN NOOKS

Are you having BREAKFAST with your family or DINNER with close friends?Either way, the best setting will be a kitchen nook with a built- in bench and a dining table.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally ,I am a big fan of the kitchen nooks, so, I will never miss an extra space to design one in any kitchen project.

NOOKS will bring character to any kitchen with their individual designs and colors. The size and the shape of a nook generally depends on your spatial availability. Preferably, window sides are great to build nooks .Noone likes to block daylight with top cabinets, so, a nook is always a great solution in a kitchen with spare windows and enough room. And also, who can deny the charm of having a freshly brewed morning coffee in a window nook???

No matter the size, a kitchen with a nook will always be more charming because, it will be a perfect gathering spot for all members of your family. So, make sure you tuck one and style it up!!!

Mostly, nooks are designed with a bench and chairs or stools around a dining table. L shaped benches are very common as getting in and out is quite easy. But, I recommend using a U shaped bench if you have enough space to utilize.A spacious nook will always look GRAND.

A TIP TO KEEP IN MIND:  Try to place a round , oval or a curved cornered table if your space is limited.

AND DON'T FORGET:Round tables work best with square layouts whereas oval and rectangle shaped tables work best with more linear shaped nook spaces.

I often design NOOKS with built-in benches as they are always great for storage! You can have drawers or cabinets under your cushions to pile away extras of any kind...

Although,"Styling A Nook" is another great topic for a future blog, I will confess that my favorite nooks are designed white lacquered wood furniture and vibrant colored cushions ,pillows and accessories.

BEFORE AND AFTER

11 (5).jpg

One summer ago, a friend of mine and her husband stepped into the office for a bedroom makeover. As I remember then, their major intention was to join the old balcony to the room. By the way, they were expecting their second daughter who was about to be born in a month and YES of course they were in a RUSH❗️

IMG_5514.JPG

The initial plan was to get rid of the old balcony walls and windows and plan a bigger space. So, we decided to keep the flooring to save ourselves some time and money to splurge on the wallpaper and fabrics...

IMG_5508.JPG

Another major concern was the poor organisation of their old wardrobe! Sliding doors were not practical for the working couple!Nothing was quite visible and morning dressing ritual was a burden !!!

Therefore, we designed an open walk in closet space for their individual needs.

TesMimarlık_48.jpg

After planning the fundamental pieces of the bedroom, we still had more space to play around with!Balcony had a nice view and nobody could resist sitting by those windows.SO, we designed a built in seating arrangement and had it custom made to fit our new space.Frankly, I believe the comfy window seat is the reason why the young couple spend so much time in their new bedroom😊

The old balcony floor had ceramics and no new hardwood floor would match the old one.

That is why, we went ahead and changed it with a wall to wall carpeting for a cosier feel.

As the couple desired to sleep facing the windows, we designed a double duty closet door as a bed headboard with MDF backing. And then, we dressed it with the cutest wallpaper which I really fell in love with😍 Seriously, the YELLOW in the paper was our sunny inspiration for the remaining selections of fabrics and accessories.

Despite the crazy humid and hot weather and strict working hours implied by the neighbors,we were lucky enough to finish every detail before the new member of the family arrived👏👏

BEFORE and AFTER TIME

Before and After Alert: My favorite way to reveal professional tips of the trade. Read on to see how a new design can regenerate an old interior.

Two summers ago, I have completed the renovation of this same exact house. I loved working with this happy family of 3 so much and the end result was very pleasing!

But, suddenly, they became a happy family of 4, and the newcomer changed the spatial needs as well as the lifestyle. The guest room downstairs had to be turned into a nursery, and so they needed a new guest room with a toilet, a study and a tv room all in one space.

                                                                             BEFORE

The OLD TV ROOM on the second floor of this duplex had the perfect potential! Plus, it was the only room we had not remodeled in the previous renovation!

At first, it seemed a bit challenging because a bed would distract the entire design and there was no foundation for a toilet. But, together with heavy brainstorming and precise decision making, we came up with a perfect solution to have it all in one room.

NOW ,it was time to tear it down too!!!

The inital step was to solve the toilet problem! Luckily, the master bathroom was next door ,so I used the present mechanical installations in the adjacent wall. No freedom to choose the location can seem like a downside, but this fact ,as being discussion free, worked in my favor.I managed to keep it small and the sliding door was a BIG space saver.

IMG_1790.JPG

The FIREPLACE was also in the wish list and I could not imagine a cozier space without it. So, I had a custom made fireplace mounted next to the powder room. Rest of the room plan smoothly radiated around this design.

The replacement of a traditional bed system with a sleeper sofa was the best resolution.

Now, they had room even for a kitchenette with a wine cooler. Woow!!

                                                                         AFTER

The old study was so outdated, and not practical enough for their growing needs. Therefore, the study was redefined with new custom made furniture. I added laser cut pieces to spruce up the look. The client loved the idea, as the study became more inspirational...

I preferred light tones of gray for wall paint and the color scheme turned out to be a tone-on-tone color. PLUS,I tried to decorate with accent touches of bold hues for an easy going feel.

...SLEEP,WORK,RELAX and PLAY in one ROOM...

With all the great memories kids make, comes a great fuss too:) Styled living rooms and kids bedrooms are not ideal for relax family time. So if you have an extra room to spare , turn it into a family room where all can work and play at the same time!
