GUEST POST:WALLPAPER ISN'T JUST FOR WALLS--GRAHAM&BROWN

Gorgeous wallpaper designs may look wonderful on your walls, but they can also be used in other areas of the home for a quirky, alternative twist to your interior design. Wallpaper can be used in plenty of practical ways to spruce up your home without papering all your walls.

Whether you’re working with leftovers and offcuts, or you’re buying a fresh roll to get creative, we’ve put together some top tips and inspiration ideas to fuel your next project.

Before you get started - know your adhesives

Depending on where you’re applying your wallpaper, you’ll need the correct type of glue for the job. It sounds simple, but that dry glue stick that’s lurking in the back of your stationery drawer is certainly not fit for the job!

Consider purchasing a reliable waterproof adhesive. An all-purpose glue will allow you to stick your wallpaper to anything from wood, to glass and even material.

 Room 1: The kitchen

There are many ways to brighten up your kitchen with a few bits of wallpaper. For a flash of color, why not choose a vibrant, contrasting design to line your cupboards and drawers? Every time you open your cupboards you’ll be greeted with a cheerful burst of uplifting color, perfect for quelling the stress you feel when cooking a meal for your entire family!

Room 2: Living room

This stunning lined bookcase would look perfect in your living room and provides an easy way to update a mundane feature in your home. Perhaps you could even have a different design for each compartment to reflect what type of books are kept in each section?

Remember, the idea is to make your bookcase stand out, so don’t be afraid of applying a design that is completely different to your current wallpaper.

Room 3: Corridor

Forget about borders and dado rails, there’s an even more impressive way to jazz up the passageways of your home. This beautiful staircase features a small strip of wallpaper on each step and creates a kitsch, ‘doll house’ style, completely transforming the look and feel of your home.

If you have a wooden staircase that has seen better days, but you can’t face the task of sanding down and lacquering each step, this could be a faster and more affordable alternative. Simply paint your bannister and steps in a neutral shade, even white will do, and get to work with the most wonderful patterned paper you can find. Although each step doesn’t need to match, you should try and stick to similar colors for a running theme that will pull the look of your staircase together.

Room 4: Dining room

Upcycle some old containers and tin cans to create gorgeous homemade table decorations, such as vases. A little bit of wallpaper can go a long way when you’re creating these wonderful centerpieces. Intricate patterns work wonderfully on these stunning recycled pots, so pick eye-catching designs that will draw your guests’ attention to your hand-crafted feature.

So what are you waiting for? We’ve given you plenty of ideas to get you started, but this is just the tip of the iceberg! From lampshade coverings to wallpaper headboards, the possibilities are endless when you let your imagination run wild.

MORE TIPS ON KITCHEN CABINET COLORS

Do you remember the previous post about how to choose kitchen cabinet colours?

If YES-read on for more related tips of the trade!

If NO- I say you go back and read again😊

ANYWAYS...

1)Whites work almost perfect in every kitchen no matter what the surroundings are! And DON'T FORGET;almost all countertop and backsplash materials work great with white cabinets.

2)Bright cabinet colours work best in smaller spaces whereas pastel tones glorify spacious kitchens.

3)Midtones are always safe either way, but they can look outdated very easily. So I say,be bold on the countertop or the backsplash or even both!

4)Lacquer finish has been very popular for years as it can easily be repainted for a brand new look. Personally, it has been my favourite for a really long time and I still can't get enough of it just because of the possible tones of shades.

5)Wood is usually the material of choice for anyone who is looking for a very cosier feel in the kitchen! Somehow , I find them nostalgic as they remind me of the old massive wood kitchens with large cabinets! But, of course many contemporary style cabinets are designed with real wood as well! I suggest using light to mid toned wood with less grains for a timeless look.

HOW TO : CHOOSE KITCHEN CABINET COLORS

All White or dark Gray or BOTH?

No matter what size it is , a kitchen is the center piece of any house. So, picking a cabinet color and style can be really exhausting while remodeling your new kitchen.Certainly, the style of the cabinets, either modern or classic is quite fundamental . Yet, for now I will go ahead and only blog about the colours and how to choose them.

IMG_0197.JPG

Unless it is a totally new home you are building ,the existing color of the flooring and the walls should be the preliminary guides in your decision making .For example, let's say you have dark colored materials on the floor, then a subtle tone of light is always moving!

VIA BETTER HOMES AND GARDEN

I always like the cabinet colors to rather blend in with the walls when the flooring is a dark material of any kind. This way you don't spoil the whole idea of creating a contrast! Never forget, eyes can easily get tired too 👀

However, mid tones on the floors , do not necessarily work well with dark colored cabinets. In this case, I suggest, you head for similar tones for the floor and the cabinets to achieve a elegantly uniform look.

Lighter floors, on the other hand, are usually easier to work with, as they can be combined perfectly with light colors and bright tones.

And guess WHAT?

You can even dare to use shiny metallic finishes for the cabinets if you keep the walls light.

Another great method I often prefer, is using two toned kitchen cabinets.

                                                   <<<<<WHEN & HOW>>>>>

Imagine dark floors and light walls, or vice versa and you don't know how to wrap them...

A great tip:Use two colours and preferably lean towards darker tones for the under counter cabinets  and lighter colours for the top units.

By the way,I must confess the significance of the cabinet style, counter tops as well as the backsplash materials is worth mentioning, but there is NOOO way to cover them all in one post! So, hang in there for future kitchen design related topics on the BLOG✍🏻✍🏻

HOW TO: SHOP FOR KITCHEN RUNNERS

Now that you have spent a fortune on the high-end stainless steel appliances and customized your cabinets and even splurged on countertops for the finest finish, what do you think is missing to complete the look⁉️

***Runners and runners again for sure.***

Can anyone deny the warm and cozy feeling of a runner on a kitchen floor?

VIA MY DOMAINE

Many runners come in different sizes.First of all, you have to decide where the runner will work best! I often pick the hallway between the island and the longest cabinet wall to accommodate a longer runner. Because, in terms of size, I believe when runners are concerned the longer the merrier 😊

Secondly, make sure to settle on the style and color pallets, otherwise, you will go mad trying to choose the final product among many many many beautiful runners out there.

My initial inclination is usually towards contrasts with the kitchen style or color, so let's say you have a kitchen with rather contemporary cabinets, I would suggest buying a really authentic piece to accent.

And if the colors in your kitchen are rather dark and woody, I would look for bright colors and attractive patterns. But, don't forget, it is also wise to keep the flooring color in mind for a blending look.

IF your kitchen has enough walking space, don't hesitate to buy two identical or even similar sized or colored runners to enrich the feel of warmth.

Another tip of the trade is to buy a normal sized rug and get it cut in half for 2 smaller runners! There you go, you have your customized piece already 😉

You can find runners everywhere for almost every price depending on size and style. Besides bespoke rug companies, furniture stores also carry adorable runners. And then again, online shopping is always easy and it is possible to get a great deal on a nice piece of kilim.

WINDOW SEATS

"Even the prisoners have the right to have a window"

This quote once used by my architecture professor in college, has been so influential in my own experience over the years. No one can deny the  significance of a window as it is a major  link to the outside world in a dwelling. Besides its vital uses for fresh air and daylight, you might want to add a seating arrangement next to a window for more...

Don't we all have days when we scroll out of bed with eyes half open? A window side nook is a great setting to yawn and stretch for a bright day ahead!Plus you will pick your daily outfit better just by checking the weather sitting next to a window😊

Of course it will always be a Great curl up area for nite owls with less sleep ! Or if you are a book worm, you can decorate your nook with extra shelves for more books and bury yourself in them and enjoy a special night time reading.

***KITCHENS***

On the weekends, after breakfast I can't wait to enjoy my morning coffee by a window. So, a bench by the window is an all time favorite feature in almost all of my kitchen designs.

Plus, you can easily sit down and relax even while cooking. A comfy and stylish nook is your perfect spot to read papers or surf the net for a new delightful recipe.

***LIVINGROOM***

Imagine yourself on a snowy day, wanting to settle by the window to watch the white flakes ! You can take your shoes off,  and get warm with blankets on a lovely window seat. It is a winner if placed next to a fireplace. Let's say you have more guests coming in, just pull a side table for entertaining.
