BEFORE AND AFTER:BUSE TERIM OFFICE

Although 5 whole years have passed over this renovation ,every moment of it stays in my memory quite vividly as it was a very special Project in many ways.

*****************************************************

First of all, it was a great beginning of a client architect relationship that has come to last till now with a total of 13 projects so far.
Another reason that made this renovation particularly special was the history of the building which dates back to the early 1900s.

With a past of over 100 years, the BRAUNSTEİN apartment had its share of aging. The challange was to design the first office of a very young and famous blogger in such an old space.
------------------------------------------------------
Although the client was the mere reflection of youth and energy, she believed in the aura of the past. That is why, the main idea was to balance the old and new  by mixing significant old structural details with new and easy to use materials. The process began by tearing apart useless layers to bring about the main historic elements.
The cratfsmanship of the brick walls and vaulted ceilings was striking.

AFTER

AFTER

The initial
Goal was to design an eye catching entry with a dynamic character.
The colors and materials were selected together with Buse Terim, the blogger herself.
The focus was to have the energy in the center and have everything radiate from it with bits and surprises in small bundles.

Peeling the old floorings which have been layered through the years required a great deal of time and energy.Once this challenge was complete, clear epoxy was hand poured on to the bare concrete floor.

THE PROCESS

THE PROCESS

All the original doors and windows were kept and restored with minor handling and paint.Only the kitchen door was replaced with a glass door , dressed with custom designed macaroon stickers.

AFTER

The old hexagon window glass was all broken so we decided to have colorful pieces of glass made by a local glasswork studio specializing in antique pieces.Painting the vaulted ceilings all white after tearing down chips and old paint expressed the charming structure and resulted in a higher feeling space.

---No matter the size, I believe, a renovation job that is true to the characteristic architecture is always intriguing, so it was a job worth all the hard work!!!---

BEFORE AND AFTER

One summer ago, a friend of mine and her husband stepped into the office for a bedroom makeover. As I remember then, their major intention was to join the old balcony to the room. By the way, they were expecting their second daughter who was about to be born in a month and YES of course they were in a RUSH❗️

IMG_5514.JPG

The initial plan was to get rid of the old balcony walls and windows and plan a bigger space. So, we decided to keep the flooring to save ourselves some time and money to splurge on the wallpaper and fabrics...

IMG_5508.JPG

Another major concern was the poor organisation of their old wardrobe! Sliding doors were not practical for the working couple!Nothing was quite visible and morning dressing ritual was a burden !!!

Therefore, we designed an open walk in closet space for their individual needs.

TesMimarlık_48.jpg

After planning the fundamental pieces of the bedroom, we still had more space to play around with!Balcony had a nice view and nobody could resist sitting by those windows.SO, we designed a built in seating arrangement and had it custom made to fit our new space.Frankly, I believe the comfy window seat is the reason why the young couple spend so much time in their new bedroom😊

IMG_3762.JPG

The old balcony floor had ceramics and no new hardwood floor would match the old one.

That is why, we went ahead and changed it with a wall to wall carpeting for a cosier feel.

TesMimarlık_49.jpg

As the couple desired to sleep facing the windows, we designed a double duty closet door as a bed headboard with MDF backing. And then, we dressed it with the cutest wallpaper which I really fell in love with😍 Seriously, the YELLOW in the paper was our sunny inspiration for the remaining selections of fabrics and accessories.

Despite the crazy humid and hot weather and strict working hours implied by the neighbors,we were lucky enough to finish every detail before the new member of the family arrived👏👏

HOW TO : MAKE GALLERY WALLS

IS your home complete with all the necessary furniture, fabrics and lighting fixtures and yet does not feel like home⁉️⁉️

That is because no space is finished without wall art!!!And how you display your art can either make or brake your interior. So read on to make your walls party...

TES INTERIORS--REFRESHED CLASSIC PROJECT

NOW, you either have too much art and not enough walls or vice versa...

You might have many different sizes and types of artwork to hang around and not enough  wall space or you can feel hopeless finding enough pieces to hang with an abundance of bare walls.

And Don't PANIC! I have been through the same dilemmas and believe me, different types of walls and artwork have driven me crazy enough till I know how❗️❗️So follow to see tips for a well curated ART WALL...

IMG_8776.JPG

VIA APARTMENT THERAPY

Let's start with numerous works of art and limited wall space.

First, you have to carefully select your favourites because it is not about clustering your walls with frames and paintings. Indeed, you want to look for quality arrangement to better display your pieces.

Once you decide what you want to hang , you should start to lay them on a floor area about the size of your wall. You will see how they will fit more clearly.

VIA MOMTASTIC

If you are having problems visualizing, I suggest you search the internet for reference sheets on gallery walls. There are great guides for DIY ,so you can easily figure which style you like more.

VIA DECORATED LIFE

Horizontally wide walls will require more spacing and maybe more square sized frames. But, of course spread vertical and horizontal pieces to avoid a boring wall.

VIA DESIGN CHASER

Vertical walls on the other hand are better for tall frames with a mix of smaller pieces. Keeping the overall area tight will make your walls seem longer but make sure to stretch outside the grid a bit for diversity.

VIA LAUREL BERN INTERIORS

WHAT IF your scene is the opposite? Let's say you have any type of wall but not enough artwork or major pieces. My first tip would be to head for a gallery wall with anything you like including wall decor ,clocks , and mirrors and even bookshelves.

VIA SOUTHERN WEDDINGS

Still not satisfied?? Then, go and invest on smaller budget friendly pieces like framed photos or watercolors.Or just hang your own b&w family photos with black frames.

Trust me, with the guidance of a template, you will achieve a professional look almost anytime.

VIA DESIGN SPONGE

You can easily find them on Pinterest , so get inspired by amazing gallery walls and familiarise with the ones that suit your walls the best.Again, make sure to lay them on a similar sized floor space to get the overall feeling before you nail anything. I doubt that you will want to see more painters once you are settled into your new home, so think before you hole your wall❗️

Once you are done , you will enjoy the feeling of being in an actual home.                                    SO COME ON and GET YOUR ART TOGETHER!

More Tips:

Similar thickness in frames result in a clean and crisp look.

BEFORE and AFTER TIME

Before and After Alert: My favorite way to reveal professional tips of the trade. Read on to see how a new design can regenerate an old interior.

Two summers ago, I have completed the renovation of this same exact house. I loved working with this happy family of 3 so much and the end result was very pleasing!

But, suddenly, they became a happy family of 4, and the newcomer changed the spatial needs as well as the lifestyle. The guest room downstairs had to be turned into a nursery, and so they needed a new guest room with a toilet, a study and a tv room all in one space.

                                                                             BEFORE

The OLD TV ROOM on the second floor of this duplex had the perfect potential! Plus, it was the only room we had not remodeled in the previous renovation!

At first, it seemed a bit challenging because a bed would distract the entire design and there was no foundation for a toilet. But, together with heavy brainstorming and precise decision making, we came up with a perfect solution to have it all in one room.

NOW ,it was time to tear it down too!!!

The inital step was to solve the toilet problem! Luckily, the master bathroom was next door ,so I used the present mechanical installations in the adjacent wall. No freedom to choose the location can seem like a downside, but this fact ,as being discussion free, worked in my favor.I managed to keep it small and the sliding door was a BIG space saver.

IMG_1790.JPG

The FIREPLACE was also in the wish list and I could not imagine a cozier space without it. So, I had a custom made fireplace mounted next to the powder room. Rest of the room plan smoothly radiated around this design.

The replacement of a traditional bed system with a sleeper sofa was the best resolution.

Now, they had room even for a kitchenette with a wine cooler. Woow!!

                                                                         AFTER

The old study was so outdated, and not practical enough for their growing needs. Therefore, the study was redefined with new custom made furniture. I added laser cut pieces to spruce up the look. The client loved the idea, as the study became more inspirational...

I preferred light tones of gray for wall paint and the color scheme turned out to be a tone-on-tone color. PLUS,I tried to decorate with accent touches of bold hues for an easy going feel.

...SLEEP,WORK,RELAX and PLAY in one ROOM...

With all the great memories kids make, comes a great fuss too:) Styled living rooms and kids bedrooms are not ideal for relax family time. So if you have an extra room to spare , turn it into a family room where all can work and play at the same time!

TIPS TO RESTYLE YOUR CEILINGS

Are you looking for inventive ways to style your home? Do you want to spruce up the look without accenting your walls?

Then it is time to spoil your ceilings❗️And when I say spoil, I don't just mean splurging on a pendant or a paint color. So come on and read to see my tips to style them up a bit.

JAZZY WORKPLACE Project by TESINTERIORS

Ceilings come in different sizes and shapes. Most houses usually have plain ones with coats of paint or even popcorn ceilings which almost any tasteful person would immediately upgrade. The major perspective for decision making is the height of your ceiling.High ceilings are in general an object of desire.Yet, you might want to scale it down for a cozy and complete look.

Here are some interesting ways to do it .Moulding is my favorite. You can use any material as long as it is safely constructed!Just make sure you will enjoy it when looking up...And trust me French know how to do it 👌

By the way, worship a ceiling if it withholds history! Luckily throughout the years I have come across such ceilings especially in restoration projects. For the FRESCO BRAUNSTEIN project, I clearly remember how thrilled I was when looking for a talent to restore the cracked painting.

Short ceilings can also be very attractive when tailored right! You might fear that they will be overwhelming when you restyle them. But don't worry because dressing your ceiling is going to give your space more depth instead! So , I would suggest you to go for figured wallpapers ,maybe mirrored tiles or even mix of colors! Just make sure you do not bring down the height with extra suspended beams or decorative features.

Some ceilings come with structural features on their own! They might be decorative enough or you can restyle a little with easy touch ups! I recommend painting if you want to expose the structure.Or you can even restore and leave them bare to honor the architectural elements .
